Design workshops are interactive sessions aimed at fostering creativity, collaboration and problem solving skills within a group. We had many such workshops which brought together different individuals with different perspectives and expertise to generate ideas, explore concepts and develop solutions for specific design challenges. The workshops were very engaging and helpful in understanding research techniques and how we can use our practice to develop ideas to visually show our topic.

A freelance strategist who helps brands understand people

The workshop conducted by James Roadnight was about tonality.  Tone is attitude or feeling which is communicated. What message is to be conveyed and how do I want people to feel about it. I had to interview someone related to my topic and create a visual outcome. The visual outcome was observed and feedbacks were collected from peers.

The outcome after the interview with a psychologist who threw more light on the lack of communication between parents and children. The visual outcome is a solid wall which reflects the misunderstanding that grows hard due to lack of communication which includes clear two way talking, listening and understanding without judging.


A human-centred designer, consultant who specialise in projects that combine visual communication and behavioural design

Ricky Stoch's workshop was about defining a problem, ideate, make prototype and test it. Testing helps in learning about users and create new ideas. The idea should be made keeping the target audience in mind.

A freelance Graphic Designer who specialises in editorial, typography, brand identities

Magda Tritto conducted a workshop where we had to write nearly 20 words which relates to our research topic. As we all had different topics, we created different words but some had similar meanings. We joined our words to create a visual image, story or poem. It was a very indulging activity.

With this workshop I could connect my topic using various words that related to it. With these words I could connect each word with another and research into it. This workshop also helped me  form ideas visually which related with my topic.

We created different chapters with the words mixed up which did not have any meanings. Each of us chose a chapter and created a visual idea of story, poem or illustration of the chapter. 

For my chapter, I came out with a meaning which related with talking out your feelings through speech or writing. Because both can make you feel free. The illustration I thought of is a mic or could have been mouth to show talking, then for writing I chose pen and butterfly to show the feelings of being free after being in a cocoon like the caterpillar.


A design consultant, facilitator, trainer, speaker and writer

Simon Gough's workshop was about prototyping. Prototype - an interactive representation of a future state. What it can be in future? Why do it? What can we learn? how useful it is? All these questions can be answered through a prototype.

During the workshop we had to create a prototype on how the future of the university will be. We in group of 2 or 3, created prototypes using craft items. Here we used clay to make little people wearing VR glasses and a screen. This showed the use of VR in classrooms so students can attend their sessions from home and get the feel of being in a classroom. 

We had to break the previous prototype and create another one this time. Taking the idea of VR, we created a person wearing VR headset using clay. This time we added that it is useful for people who cannot go for museum visits or disabled people who cannot access the museum or any trips. Wearing the VR headset can let them get involved equally like others.


Illustrator, artist and cartoonist

Jon McNaught's workshop was very interesting which showed his works as a cartoonist and use of lithography in his process. It works on the principle of oil or grease and water repel each other. Some of his illustrations that he showed us during the session ---->
